Re: <nettime> Never use 1 word where 0 words will do

I really hope we can avoid reenacting twitter-type debates in which a bunch of guys propose clear explanations when, as David points out, no one knows or understands anything.

The dominant coverage has reduced this to a hypermacho PRIGOZHIN VS PUTIN boxing match, which I’m fairly certain misses many if not most of the key dynamics.

Just one example: Eric Draitser argued a month ago that the structural failures of the Putinist economy would all but require a new round of privatization, which would be *deeply* unpopular but necessary to keep oligarchic milieus on board:

My hunch: the effort to shut down Wagner had a few goals, including minimizing Prigozhin’s power and carving up his assets for redistribution. That could be way off, and even if it’s sharp it still focuses power, “heroic” figures, etc.

A useful comparison: the endless noise about a sunken submersible full of wealthy thrill-seekers vs several hundred unnamed migrants downing.

I think there are people on this list who could shed light on the situation but might be reluctant to do so openly. Certainly, there are a *lot* of people with direct experience with that kind of tension. I hope we can find ways to have discussions that are hard to find in other contexts. Isn’t that one if the stated reasons for keeping the list going?

Cheers,
Ted
