Exploding Cinema is the programme in which the Film Festival focuses on
the future of cinema. As we line up to enter the next millennium, cinema
is being transformed by the digital era in a rapid way. At the same time,
cinema has become a universal language influencing visual culture as a
whole, and is used in digital media and the fine arts as well as in clubs
and computer games. Exploding Cinema explores how the style and grammar of
cinema are being used and taken by filmmakers and artist's >from all
corners of the art and media world. Exploding Cinema explores all those
new forms of cinematography in other media and environments, and looks into
the future and it's effect on cinema as we know it.

In the last four years, the Exploding Cinema programme featured
interactive or cinematographic installations from artist's such as Diller
& Scofidio, Judith Barry, John Maybury and Steve McQueen, live events
exploring the field of visualising sound with performances by Pierre
Henry, David Shea, Ken Ishii, DJ Spooky and Photek, lectures about the
future of cinema from filmmakers such as Peter Greenaway and
