Het is alweer twee weken geleden dat HOMEPORT ROTTERDAM van
start ging: 4 digitale media installaties werden aan het publiek
gepresenteerd:
'HOLE IN THE EARTH' van Maki Ueda 'CROSS CONTROL' van Marnix de Nijs 'ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR - THE HOMEPORT VIDEO LIBRARY' van Florian

'WAVESCAPE' van Edwin van der Heide
De laatste drie installaties zijn nog t/m 8 juli in
Rotterdam te bezichtigen!
Waar? Oude Haven (de Nijs), Euromast (Wuest), Wilhelminakade (van der
Heide). Alle installaties GRATIS, uitgezonderd entree voor de
Euromast!
Een geval apart is HOLE IN THE EARTH van Maki Ueda. Ueda groef als het ware een digitaal gat naar (bijna) de andere kant
van deze aardbol, namelijk naar het verre Shanghai! Twee webcams op
verschillende openbare ruimtes in zowel Shanghai als Rotterdam ingegraven
creerden een pure illusie van een ... tunnel door de aarde, inderdaad.
Een uur lang praatten, zwaaiden en trokken de inwoners van twee grote
internationale havensteden 'gekke bekken' naar elkaar - menselijke
communicatie in de meest pure zin van het woord.
Je zou immers bijna vergeten dat er tienduizenden mijlen tussen zitten ..
Een uur lang maar? Inderdaad, slechts een uur lang - dat is kort, te
kort. En dus komt HOLE IN THE EARTH TERUG!
HOLE IN THE EARTH wordt namelijk in SEPTEMBER 2001 (onder
voorbehoud!) als (semi) permanente installatie opnieuw gepresenteerd en
geopend aan de DIERGAARDESINGEL in hartje Rotterdam -
niet geheel toevallig pal voor het CELL kantoor.
Voor degenen die er bij waren dus weer een gelegenheid om naar een plek
aan de andere kant van de aardbol te zwaaien. en voor zij die het gemist
hebben een verse kans om de bewoners van Shanghai de groeten te doen!

The last 3 installations are showing untill June 9th in Rotterdam!
Where? Oude Haven (de Nijs), Euromast (Wuest), Wilhelminakade (van der
Heide). All installations FREE (except the entrance fee for the
Euromast!)
The HOLE IN THE EARTH by MAKI UEDA is the odd one out. Ueda dug an imaginary hole to (almost) the other side of the earth,
all the way to Shanghai! Two webcams on - or better: IN different grounds
created the pure illusion of ... a tunnel through the centre of the
earth, indeed! For one hour, residents of 2 international harbor cities
on the other side of the earth were talking, waving.. and ofcourse
pulling faces to each other: human communiciation in the purest meaning
of the word!
One would almost forget the thousands of miles in between...
So, it all lasted for just an hour .. Yes, just an hour - short, too
short. And so, the HOLE IN THE EARTH WILL BE BACK!
The intention is to present the HOLE IN THE EARTH in SEPTEMBER 2001 as a
semi permanent installation at Diergaardesingel in the centre of
Rotterdam - as a matter of fact, just in front of the CELL
headquarters.
