PRODUCTION AND RESEARCH GRANTS - GENERAL CONDITIONS
MECAD\MEDIA CENTRE D ART I DISSENY
November 8nd, 1999
MECAD\Media Centre d'Art i Disseny, located in Sabadell - 
Barcelona, opens the application period for production and colaboration grants 
addressed to professionals in the different fields of Electronic Art and Digital 
Design. Candidates to these grants can apply under the following conditions: 

1. Types of grants: 1.1. Grants for the production of MECAD 
projects.1.2. Grants for the production of the candidates' own 
projects.1.3. Grants for the collaboration of MECAD in the 
candidates' own projects.1.4. Grants for 
collaboration in theorical research. 
2. Specialisation areas. Applications must present 
production (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) or research (1.4) projects related to the following 
fields: 2.1. Interactive systems, CD-ROM (or art in 
other digital support), Net Art/Telecomunication 
Art2.2. Computer animation/computer 
graphics2.3. Audio visual (video, etc.)Research projects must be related to the context of Electronic Art, 
though their perspective and field of focus are free.
3. General conditions.3.1. Time period. 
Five months, between March 1st and July 30th, 2000.3.2. Time schedule. Candidates may choose between part time 
(4 hours per day) or full time (8 hours per day) work. MECAD requires that 
grant-holders work at MECAD's media lab during the time period of their grants, 
having the same work holidays and timetable as MECAD's 
employees.3.3. Endowment.(a) Grants for the production of MECAD�s own projects 
(1.1) and the candidates' own projects (1.2):(a.1.) 
Part-time work (4 hours a day): The total endowment will be an amount of 
300.000,- Ptas netto, which will be payed on a monthly basis (60.000,- Ptas. per 
month). MECAD will make available for grant-holders the necessary equipment that 
they have specified in their respective applications or in previous agreement. 
(a.2.) Full-time work (8 hours a day): The total 
endowment will be an amount of 600.000,- Ptas. netto, which will be payed on a 
monthly basis (120.000,- Ptas. per month). MECAD will make available for 
grant-holders the necessary equipment that they have specified in their 
respective applications or in previous agreement.
(b) Grants for the collaboration of MECAD in 
candidates' own projects (1.3) or for theoretical research (1.4): MECAD's 
support will consist of allowing candidates to use all the necessary equipment 
available at MECAD's media lab and the Escola Superior de Disseny ESDI's during 
the grant period.
4. Regulation.4.1. Those works 
produced by grant-holders which are based on projects developed by MECAD (type 
1.1) will be property of MECAD, which will appear in all credit listings as 
producer of the work. The grant-holder's name will appear in the credit listings 
as project developer.
4.2. Those works produced by grant-holders as a result of the 
collaboration of MECAD with the grant-holder (type 1.2) must always include a 
credit line for MECAD and his logotype as co-producer, without any temporal 
limits. MECAD will keep the right to receive a copy of the final version of the 
work, to premiere it, to show and to use it in the contexts of the activities 
organised by this centre, without obligation of paying its author any 
fee.
4.3. Those works produced at MECAD or ESDI's media lab with the 
equipment available in them (type 1.3 and 1.4) will be property of their 
authors, who must mention the collaboration of MECAD and include MECAD's 
logotype as sponsor in all of the releases and presentations of works, without 
any temporal limit. MECAD will keep the right to receive a copy of the final 
version of the work, to premiere it, to show and to use it in the contexts of 
the activities organised by this centre, without obligation of paying its author 
any fee.
5. Supervise
Grant-holders are expected to keep the direction of MECAD 
informed about the evolution of their projects, in meetings that will take place 
on a monthly basis. 
6. Cancellation
MECAD will keep the right to cancel the grant given to any 
grant-holder if, after the first two months, it is detected that the dedication 
of the grant-holder to the project, or the development of the project are 
insufficient according to what is established in the present General Conditions, 
or the dedication of the grant-holder to the project differs from the initial 
proposal, and MECAD desagrees with the evolution of the work.
7. Application requirements
7.1. Academic requirements. Candidates must be in possession of 
a university degree (Bachelor in Fine Arts, Audiovisual Communication, etc.) or 
have finished other professional studies equivalent to the same level of 
education. 
7.2. Specialisation. Candidates must fullfil the following 
conditions: specialization in interactive/multimedia art/design, on-line and 
off-line, audio visual and/or computer animation; technical capacity to carry 
out the project; good knowledge of Macintosh and PC platforms for the use of the 
necessary applications. In the case of computer animation projects, the 
mastering of Silicon Graphics platforms and of the software Maya will be taken 
into account. In the special option of investigation, the publication of 
articles and essays will be taken into account.
7.3. Professional experience and artistic career in the field of 
specialization will be taken into account by the selection comittee, so it is 
advisable to send copies and/or material of previous projects carried out by the 
authors.
8. Application process.
8.1. Application deadline. The application period opens 
with the publication of the present General Conditions (November 8nd), and is 
due on December 10th, 1999.
8.2. Presentation of applications. Candidates can send their 
applications via e-mail (info@mecad.org), fax (+34 93 745 70 40) or post 
(Marques de Comillas 79-83, 08202 Sabadell- Barcelona), or hand them in 
personally at the premises of MECAD (same address). Candidates must 
always enclose the duly filled-in application form enclosed 
below.
8.3. Multiple modalities. The candidate can apply for different 
modalities, indicating clearly the candidates' preference.
9. Documentation. Candidates must enclose with their 
application the following documents: 
- Application form.- Complete curriculum 
vitae, specifying level of academic studies, professional career, personal 
productions, etc.- Fields of interest and/or 
specialization.- Technologies, platforms and software that the 
candidate is proficient with.- Specification of the 
level of their proficiency in Spanish, English and other 
languages.- In case of applications for the options indicated 
in 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4, description of the project that the candidate wishes to 
carry out, indicating clearly its technical requirements.- It is advisable to 
send copies and/or material of previous projects carried out by the 
author.

10. Selection process.
10.1. Selection comittee: A comittee with members from FUNDIT 
(the foundation that gives support to MECAD) and from MECAD will be in charge of 
selecting candidates.
10.2. Selection process: The comittee will select the first 
group of candidates, who can be then requested to send some more documentation 
and a copy of their academic degree title. The selection comittee may also 
require candidates to attend a personal interview, if it is considered necessary 
in order to elaborate the final list of grant-holders. 
10.3. Number of grants. The final number of grants will depend 
on the proposals received and the areas of research and production suggested by 
candidates. 
10.4. The selection comittee will announce its decision to the 
chosen candidates on January 15th, 2000.
The application for these grants involves the acceptance of the 
present general conditions.
