FROM TAPE TO VIRTUAL INSTALLATION is an artists¹ presentation and a forum exploring the status of tape in relation to the rapid developments in digital media in the U.K.
Through a programme of artists presentations and critical talks it is an opportunity to experience a selection of the best new media works by contemporary British artists. Incorporating a live Internet link-up, CD ROM presentations, websites, audio installations and video works the forum provides an overview of the way in which the latest digital technologies are affecting artistic production.
Engaging diverse artistic perspectives the event becomes a platform for a critical discussion and highlights the most significant developments in art practice involving tape both as a medium and a subject itself.
Lina Dzuverovic - Russell gives an overview of contemporary British new media art scene, while Tina Keane, William Furlong, Gudrun Bielz and Gina Czarnecki examine the emerging visual language created by convergence of media.
FROM TAPE TO VIRTUAL INSTALLATION also features COUCH, an extended cinema event, bringing the street and the gallery into the virtual space through the use of projection. The COUCH is a work by Tina Keane in collaboration with Tyrone Messiah, Giovanni D¹Angelo and Andrea Zimmermann featuring Dr. Rachel Armstrong as a chat show host and ...... a special guest.
FROM TAPE TO VIRTUAL INSTALLATION is supported by The British Council, Wimbledon School of Art and St Martins College of Art and Design.
