tvvv.plotas is a multidisciplinary art project, carried out in co-operation
with Lithuanian artist and artist from other countries, presented on TV and
Internet, for the purpose of infiltrating into the popular mass media and
creating a new-type of space where media experiments and communication can
take place.

The object of this project is polemics between contemporary life and
contemporary art, presentation of artists and contemporary art itself,
phenomena of subculture and their relationship with new technologies and
means of communication, hot issues of social-political reality, contemporary
audience and the mass media. Since contemporary art has branched out and
penetrated into various fields of life, the project would try to explore the
territory of this art.

With the formation of a free society and capitalist relations in Lithuania,
the pernicious role of mass consumption comes to the force. The advance of
mass culture has elevated those forms of culture that adapt themselves more
easily to mass aesthetics. Struggling against these forms, artists have to
analyze and deconstruct them, that is to think critically. Consequently, the
critical principles of media art can explain why today media art is so often
found unacceptable. Media art is probably the only field to offer a new
language helping to communicate in the complicated modern world.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT

tvvv.plotas is researching and discussing strategies of îbeing minorî.
Individual practice, motivation, infiltration to media, artistsí survival
are the starting points. The aims of the project are many-sided and
interrelated:

initiative: at the end of the 20th century, the talk about a crisis of art
does not subside. However, it does not mean that the importance of art for
an individual or society decreases. Art is able to penetrate and infiltrate
itself into various, seemingly even impossible fields of life. Therefore,
one of the most important aims of the project is to create place for a
critical discourse using TV as the most effective force of the mass media to
provoke the discussion within a society. This would provide an opportunity
to transgress the boundaries of art ghettos beyond the traditional gallery
space and create new conditions for the development of art.

education: to compensate for the lack of information on contemporary art
phenomena; to analyze the integration of new technologies and the art world;
to explore phenomena of marginal and minority cultures and sub-cultures.

analysis: to give an interpretation of these phenomena, to explain artistsí
ideas and wishes and the function of works mentioned above in the social and
political life from the viewpoint of artists themselves.

consolidation: to seek to overcome the distance separating society from some
individuals; to show the close link between technology and contemporary art;
to introduce artists who are taking a keen interest in all urgent issues.

incentive: to support the development of critical discourse, stimulate
search of the artistsí identity. An important aspect of the proposed project
is to invite artists for co-operation and analysis of the mass media
phenomenon in the context of contemporary art to present the works of
contemporary Lithuanian and foreign artists, to encourage the tendencies of
globalization of contemporary Lithuanian culture.

non-commercial: the executives, co-authors and contributors to the project
are united by non-profit activity and attitude.
