On next 9th and 10th of November, MECAD \ Media Centre of Art and Design
organises, together with Goethe Institut Barcelona, the symposium
"cross_over: arts.technologies.networks" in Barcelona, Spain.
During these two days, well-known theoreticians and artists in the field of
electronic art in order to discuss various topics related to the education
and production of electronic art.

This event constitutes as well the official opening of the new MECAD \ Media
Centre of Art and Design, recently founded in Sabadell - Barcelona, Spain.
MECAD's main objectives have to do with the development of research,
producction and support of those creative practices that involve
infographic, audivisual, telematic media and hipermedia.

At the conferences and the round table, the international specialist invited
will expose their opinions and perspectives on the current conditions - in
the field of electronic art - of the education provided by universities and
colleges, as well as on the support offered to the production of media art
by European media centres. The participants will be:  Michael Klein,
director of the Institute for New Media,  Frankfurt; Miklós Paternák,
director of C3 - Center for Culture and Communication (Soros Fondation),
Budapest; Jean-Michel Blottière, director of the Imagina Festival; and
Siegfried Zielinski, director of the Kunsthochschule für Medien, in Cologne,
indeed the most prestigious school of Europe in this field. The composer
Eduardo Polonio and the coordinator of this symposium, Claudia Giannetti,
will also take part in the programme, the latter introducing the new centre
MECAD, whose director she is.

There will also take place a paralel programme which includes various
activities, such as an electroacoustic music concert, with works by Eduardo
Polonio; a retrospective projection of the videos awarded at the Imagina
Festival during the last decade; and the premiere of the interactive,
multimedia performance Afasia, by Marcel.lí Antúnez Roca, which has been
coproduced by MECAD. During this premiere, the creation of MECAD will also
be officially presented.

On occassion of this symposium, the first book published by MECAD - a
book/monography on Marcel.lí Antúnez Roca which opens the collection devoted to
media art that this Centre intends to publish - will also appear.
