NOISEGATE

 23 MAY-16 AUGUST

Ferens Art Gallery - Live Art Space, Hull

A prestigious event for Hull - the UK premiere and only exhibition of the
latest work from internationally renowned Austrian artists Granular
Synthesis. (Kurt Hentschlager and Ulf Langheinrich).

The audience enter a large room via a working lift door or 'air lock'.
On entrance to the room they are met with a wall of sub-base sound - a very
physical and dynamic sensation. Above them giant - 12 foot high video
images show moving human heads. They are agitated and 'trapped' in the
video frames. Sensors detect the movement of audiences who can influence
the flow of this developing virtual environment.

Computer generated characters - from Tamagotchi to the dinosaurs of
Jurassic Park have become common place in the modern world. Complex and
sophisticated technical configurations trigger thousands of Megabytes of
audio and visual data. NoiseGate is artificial Intelligence in the making.

Granular Synthesis' previous commission with Hull Time Based Arts Modell 5
won first prize at Artec in Japan and was highly commended at Ars
Electronica in Linz and will be shown at EXPO in Lisbon later this year.

The artists will be in residence in Hull througout the summer producing
another large scale performance work for premiers at ISEA and ROOT, in the
autumn.

Please contact HTBA to arrange interviews or photo opportunities.
Images are available on Mac or PC disc.

An audio CD and catalogue have also been produce specially for this show.
