IN ART «97

December 9 through December 12, 1997

A symposium at the University of La Laguna, in Tenerife, one of the Canary
Islands. This annual event explores the aesthetics and culture of digital
technology. IN ART'97 will address issues related to posthumanism, virtual
identities, the denial of the physical in electronic technology and the
boundaries of the interfaced self.


Programme:

Tuesday, December 9th

Arrival of guest speakers throughout the day.
19:30: Official opening of IN ART «97. Welcoming speach  and cocktail.

Wednesday, December 10th

10:30: Erkki Huhtamo, Professor of New Technologies, Univ. Helsinki,
specialized in the archeology of electronic media. "Through the Peep Hole:
Media Art as an Archaeological Practice"
12:00:  Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

Lunch

17:30:   Andreas Broeckmann, Project manager at V2 Organisation, a
Rotterdam-based centre for art and
media technology. Co-curated programmes for the Dutch Electronic Art
Festival and the Next 5 Minutes: Tactical Media conference.
"Machinic Aesthetics and Becoming-Cyborg".
19:00:  Gerfried Stocker, Program director Ars Electronica, will speak of
this years festival, themed under "Flesh Factor".


Thursday, December 11th

10:30: Orlan
12:00: Esther Mera: Multimedia artist, director of the "Hybrids and
Mutants" lab at the California Institute of the Arts. Will speal about
"Photography, Digital Surgery and Mutations: The Body in contemporary Art".

Lunch

17:30: Sergi Jorda: creator of Epizoo with Marcel.li Antunez. Will speak of
"Cruelty and gratuitousness in virtual reality".

19:00: Sally Jane Norman

Friday, December 12th

10:30: Sandy Stone. Performance.
12:00: Panel and discussion.

Lunch

17:30: Film projection by Bion Melhus, Germany.
