Re: Syndicate: mail filter "how-tos" and writing software (was RE: administration)

thanks claudia for the eudora info..
here's yahoo filtering info:

Options (in the left frame)
Filters (under Mail Management)
Create (top part of the righthand frame)

you can filter based on To: From: Subject: or the text in the body
for example, if you wanted to filter out posts from someone with the
address
fraction@pagan.tv

you'd choose:
>From header: contains the phrase: fraction@pagan.tv

if you want to save the messages from fraction in a separate folder
(usually a good idea at least at first to make sure your filter is working
correctly):

Deliver message to: New Folder
enter name for your new folder, such as "fraction".

you should now get a page in your browser indicating that
the filter was made. if you now click on "Folders" in the lefthand frame,
you should see "fraction" (or whatever you named your folder) in your
folder list.

if later you decide you want to change the filter, such as to send
fraction's messages directly to the trash instead of a separate folder,
you can go back to
Options->Filters
and then where it lists your filter, click on the little picture of the
pencil on the right. you will now get the menu that lets you edit your
filter.

i'm not sure if there's a danger here of clogging the list with directions
for every mail program we think of and yet missing some that people
might need help with - but i figured i'd add yahoo mail since
it wasn't on the list of eudora/netscape/outlook stuff and i imagine a lot
of people are using it. so perhaps from here on if people want to use
filters but don't know how for their particular mailer they should ask on
the list for help with that mailer?

happy filtering,
-@
