   COVER INTERVIEW WITH YUTANPO SHIRANE

   The project exhibitions "Tokyo Art Frontline" will be held for
   four months at Soso Cafe in Sapporo from this month. We will
   invite forefront artists in every month in order to let visitors
   feel creators' worlds closer than before through exhibitions
   and performance events. The fist artist for this project is
   Yutanpo Shirane and he made the cover design for this issue. 


   THE PETER SAVILLE SHOW

   A retrospective of the work of Peter Saville, one of the most
   influential graphic designers and art directors in UK is
   currently showing at the Design Museum. The exhibition covers
   twenty-five years of his amazing career, from his very first
   poster, the album covers which established his name, to the
   collaboration with designer Yohji Yamamoto and to more
   recent personal work.


   SONAR 2003

   The 10th Sonar was held in Barcelona, Spain in this year, too.
   Sonar is an event that presents the forefront music and
   multimedia and it has received a high attention from the
   world now. Check the report from the hot city Barcelona.


   INTER/ACTION

   "Salvanilla" and "Lap Top Orchestra" presented a live at
   performance event "Inter/Action" on the 27th and the 28th of
   June at Roppongi Hills Arena in Tokyo. Roppongi Hills Arena is
   a circular multipurpose space with a unique concept "the
   urban style outdoor entertainment space".


   DOTSOS#16 FEAT. SAL MAGAZINE

   The monthly event "Dotsoso" was held on May 31st. The visual
   magazine "SAL magazine" has just hit its second-year-round
   and had the graphic exhibition "RE:" at Soso Cafe in Sapporo,
   Japan. The magazine features a wide variety of fields such as
   graphic design, art, visuals, music, web and architecture. It
   hopes to be a new type of media, which can act as a sample of
   a variety of cutting edge artists, and introduces some
   artworks from them. 


   ECHIGO-TSUMARI ART TRIENNIAL 2003

   Do you know an art triennial that is held at countryside in the
   Echigo-Tsumari region, Niigata Prefecture in Japan? The aim
   of "Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial 2003" is creating a strong
   link between scenery of the countryside, arts and people.
   Streets, parks, terrace paddy fields.... Art works spread out
   everywhere in this festival.


   ONEHUNDREDEIGHT

   Derek Lerner is a graffiti artist based in Brooklyn, New York.
   His exhibition has been on at a gallery "Massive", which mainly
   introduces arts that are closely related to the street culture,
   since June. Lerner has worked as the selected artist for a
   select shop in New York "alife" and one of sleeves of
   "Perfuse73" is his work as well. You can find out more about

   THE GLOBAL CITY EXHIBITION

   Roppongi Hills has been holding the opening exhibition "The
   Global City" and you can feel the scale of Tokyo and other
   major cities in the world if you look at 1/1000-scale models
   of them in this exhibition.


   FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '03

   Today, many people might think "summer is the season for Fuji
   Rock Festival". The aim of this Japan's largest outdoor rock
   festival is the symbiosis with nature and music and it will be
   back at Naeba Snow Resort in Niigata Prefecture again this
   year. More than 100 groups of artists will be invited from
   abroad and Japan, and they will have exciting shows in 5
   stages.


   GAS DVD 3

   If you play this DVD, you will soon be at the entrance to many
   forefront creators' worlds. The label "GAS" opens that dream
   door. "GAS DVD3" has been released in June and this
   compilation DVD album contains works of 14 creators from
   the world.


   SONYSTYLE GALLERY

   "SonyStyle Gallery Project" is a new try at SonyStyle site
   that has just begun in this July. The circle of companies,
   artists and users create a new value in this project. SonyStyle
   Gallery is a place where SonyStyle provides artists to show
   their works. If you want to create a new value, if you want to
   support artists, and if you want to use their works in your
   project, please visit the site.


   NEW LINE

   "NL (New Line)" is a new brand from SHIFT. This is a
   collaboration project of a designer Hideki Inaba, a graphic unit
   "Mogra" and SHIFT. Sending innovative visual language to
   various media as our message is the aim of this project. The
   first product from NL is the T-shirt designed by Hideki Inaba.
   Only 50 copies are available in this world. Don't miss it.


   .MOV FESTIVAL 2003

   Noos Movement presents ".MOV Festival 2003" is a digital film
   festival. It will be held under the joint auspices of Hokkaido
   Foundation For Cultural Activities with the aim of digging up
   hidden talented creators and providing an opportunity that
   creators can show their works. We invite all creators in the
   world. The forefront creators will select outstanding works
   from all submissions and these works will be introduced for
   one month in November at the cafe "Soso". 


   ART GALLERY BIN

   New gallery space 'BIN' has been launched on cooperation with
   Abahouse International. BIN is a showcase and repository for
   artworks in the digital era. It is intended as a place for
   artists to exhibit and archive their digital artworks. Featuring
   Manny Tan, a graphic designer, a developer and a multimedia
   artist based in New York/San Francisco.


   INFO-WORLD

   What's happening around borderground? Correspondents for
   Shift dwelling on the edge of the world contribute monthly to
   Info-World. Shift presents your direct source from the
   borderground culture of the world. The fashion exhibition is on
   at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid. In
   Amsterdam, an American artists is doing something
   interesting. A union holds an unusual meeting in Buenos Aires.
   Find our what is happening there. In Hamburg, Arne Jacobsen's
   exhibition is on.


   GIRLS ON THE STREET

   Featuring street fashion photos from all over the world.
   Summer has finally come to Russia. Check cuties in St.
   Petersburg!


   PRESENT

   Presenting the sets of original wrapping papers and coasters
   from SAL magazine "RE:" Exhibition for 5 people. The deadline
   is Thursday the 31st of July.
