Colloque organisé par OLATS et CAiiA-STAR, en collaboration avec la
Médiathèque de l'Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (Ensba).

Après l'évolution biologique, puis l'évolution culturelle et sociale
(des premiers outils préhistoriques à nos jours), nous entrons dans une
nouvelle phase, où l'avenir de l'être humain (physiologique, biologique,
culturel, mental, spirituel, social) est largement conditionné par la
technologie, notamment les biotechnologies.
Avec la théorie de l'évolution, Darwin nous avait confronté au continuum
du vivant... et à la nécessité de nous redéfinir, en tant qu'humain, par
rapport aux autres animaux et mammifères, notamment les grands singes.
Les technologies autour ou issues de la cybernétique (télécomputation,
vie artificielle, robotique) nous ont engagé dans un face à face avec la
machine, l'organique et l'inorganique. Aujourd'hui, les biotechnologies
nous confrontent à la création d'espèces nouvelles, "artificielles", qui
peuvent éventuellement donner naissance à un autre "humain". Dans cette
gamme continue entre l'inerte et l'animé, le carbonique et le
siliconique, émerge une nouvelle façon de considérer le "conscient",
vers une technoétique.
Ces questions, présentes dans les techno-sciences, dans le débat
politique, social, sont également au cœur de pratiques artistiques,
qu'elles soient liées au réseau Internet, aux biotechnologies, à la vie
artificielle, ou encore à l'art, très ancien, de la danse.
Au cours de ces deux jours, à travers la présentation des travaux et
créations des artistes membres du groupe de recherche CAiiA-STAR, ce
colloque fera le point sur la création actuelle et explorera les
pratiques émergentes dans l'art et les techno-sciences : art
bio-technologique, créativité en ligne, interrelation espace virtuel -
espace physique, lien entre les mythes anciens et pratiques
contemporaines, approche d'une conscience modifiée par les technologies
contemporaines, etc.

The symposium is organized by OLATS and CAiiA-STAR in cooperation with
the Mediatheque of the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts (Paris
National Art School).
Following the biological evolution, then the cultural and social
evolution (from the first prehistorical tools up to nowadays), we are
entering a new phase in which the future of Humans is framed by
technologies, among which the biotechnologies.
With his theory of evolution, Darwin had confronted us with the
continuum of the living... and with the necessity to redefine ourselves,
as humans, in regard of other animals and, specially, the mamals. The
technologies around us that emerged from cybernetics (telecomputation,
artificial life, robotics) have lead us to a confrontation with the
machine, the organic and the inorganic. Today, the biotechnologies
confront us with the creation of new species, "artificial" living
systems, that could, may be, give birth to a new "human". In this
continuum between matter and life, carbon-based system and silicon-based
system, a new way to deal with consciousness is emerging, toward a technoetic.
Those issues, central to the techno-sciences researches, the political
and social debates, are also at the heart of art practices, be they
Internet-based, or bio-technological related, or in connection with
artificial life, or even with this very ancient art that is dance.
During those two days, through the presentations of the researches and
artworks of the artists members of the research group CAiiA-STAR, this
symposium will examine the current creations and explore the emerging
art practices within the field of art related to techno-sciences :
biotechnological art, online creation, virtual space ­ physical space
relationships, links between ancient myths and contemporary practives,
approaches to a consciousness reframed by contemporary technologies, etc.
