[Nettime-nl] New video by Calin Dan (Modified by Geert Lovink)

Handmilked Visions Foundation has the pleasure to announce the premiere
of a new video by Calin Dan. The event will take place Sunday June 15,
between 12:00 – 16:00 hours, in the Stadsschouwburg Heerlen.

17.12.65 zaps in 10 minutes through the past of Heerlen, a small city
from Southern Holland avoided by history until the late 19th century,
when the discovery of coal started there a compressed industrial
revolution. The revolution was lost some 60 years down the road to
competition from cheaper import coal and natural gas.

On 17.12.1965, the Dutch government announced the closing of the mining
industry in the region. The date should be saved as the start of the
globalization trend reshaping the world today. Decades of forced
development were reversed in a few years. Heerlen became a shrinking
city.

17.12.65 treats this time line of events in Calin Dan's trademark mix
of sweet-bitter humor, melancholy and cool. A premiere in his work is
the combination of character animation and archive photographs.

17.12.65 by Calin Dan is a commission from the Municipality of Heerlen,
realized in collaboration with Handmilked Visions Foundation.
Animation: Vali Chincisan. Sound: Matze. Editing: Oskar van den Belt.
