SP / SENTIENT CREATURES LEZINGEN
Gesprekken over humeurige robots, het gevoel aangestaard te worden, en 
mondiaal bewustzijn. Dat zijn enkele van de onderwerpen die besproken 
zullen worden in de lezingenserie uit het Connected! Programma over 
bewustzijn, robots en communicatie. Elke woensdag in oktober een lezing met 
resp. Norman White, Rupert Sheldrake, Theo Jansen, Dick Bierman en 
Catherine Richards.

SP/ ZWEEFZONES EN ZEE-EGELS
Kun je een omgeving bouwen die zich gedraagt als een levend organisme? Dat 
vroeg het Belgische kunstenaarsgezelschap FoAM zich af. Het resultaat 
bestond ondermeer uit een zweefzone met vijftig vliegende kinderen in het 
Belgische Oorsmeer Festival. Kunstenaars bungelden aan touwen in de nok van 
de Hippodrome in Great Yarmouth met bewegelijke projectieschermen, terwijl 
spelers op de vloer gewikkeld waren in een web van electro-gloeidraad, en 
anderen zich omvormden tot zee-egel. FoAm presenteert de dvd van het 
project bij Waag Society. De dvd is op de avond verkrijgbaar.

SP/ KINETISCHE KOOKCURSUS
Jef Man geeft les in kinetisch koken. Er worden recepten uitgeprobeerd om 
electronica te verbinden met fysieke objecten, bewegingen en gebaren. De 
hoofdschotel is Spaghetti: het maken van patches en netwerken met Jeffs' 
'homemade' PIC chips.

SP/ANATOMIC OP DE RADIO
Jonge kunstenaars beproeven wat technologie vermag  in de wekelijkse 
Anatomic workshop. Het programma Digitale Kunst van TELEAC/NOT schenkt de 
komende tijd regelmatig aandacht aan de live performances van het Anatomic 
programma. In de eerste uitzending is een live performance te horen met 
kunstenaars in het lab van het Centre of Contemporary Art, Glasgow.

Event/ PETER GIELE SATELLIETPROGRAMMA
Documentaires uit de kring rond Peter Giele, kunstenaar en oprichter van 
RoXY. Met 'Double You Street' van Martin Grotenboer, 'Portret van een 
andere orde. Portret van een andere mentaliteit' van Rob Schröder, en 
Rabotnik tapes. Aanleiding is het uitkomen van het boek 'Verzamelde Werken' 
dat een beeld geeft van Amsterdam in de jaren 80 en 90 aan de hand van het 
leven van Giele.

IA/ CINEKID KRIJGT PREMIERE ANIMATIEMACHINE
Via een praxinoscoop of een flipboekje heeft iedereen wel eens 
kennisgemaakt met het zelf produceren van animaties. Nieuwe media lijken 
ook heel geschikt te zijn om de principes en het plezier van animatie over 
te brengen. Op Cinekid 2003, internationaal film-, televisie- en 
nieuwe-mediafestival voor de jeugd, is voor het eerst een door MIEG & Waag 
Society ontwikkelde animatiemachine opgesteld. Met deze installatie kan 
iedereen korte animatiefilms maken dankzij de interface met slechts een 
paar makkelijk te bedienen knoppen. Op het werkblad geplaatste voorwerpen 
of tekeningen vormen een animatie waarvan het resultaat tijdens het maken 
direct te bekijken is. Met een druk op de knop wordt de animatie vervolgens 
als filmpje gepubliceerd op het internet.

Event/ PROEFTUIN
Op de E-Culture Fair kunnen bezoekers zelf nieuwe technologische 
toepassingen uitproberen op het gebied van spelen, leren en communiceren. 
Er zijn vijfenveertig demonstraties, presentaties en performances te zien 
van de culturele sector, het bedrijfsleven, onderwijs en wetenschap.
Waag Society is aanwezig met een DJ/VJ demo van leerlingen van het 
Montessori College Oost. Zij geven hun demo aan het ScratchWorx mengpaneel, 
het hardware onderdeel van een lesproject voor het vmbo over interactieve, 
audiovisuele vertelstructuren.
In samenwerking met V2_ en internationale partners verzorgt Waag Society 
een LiveArt performance , waarbij een virtueel podium wordt opgezet met 
gebruik van multi-user software, streaming video en (GigaPort) breedband 
infrastructuur.
Janine Huizenga (hoofd Design) geeft tijdens het conferentiegedeelte van de 
Fair toelichting op het ontwerpproces van de Verhalentafel, een 'multimedia 
jukebox' voor hoogbejaaarden.
Marleen Stikker (directeur Waag Society) zit het panel 'Innovative Tools 
for Learning' voor. Leren door spelen en ervaren staat hierin centraal.

Event/ Lost & Found Radio
Lost & Found organiseert sinds 1997 bijeenkomsten voor verdwaald beeld en 
geluid. Nu laten de makers kunst zien op de radio. Drie achtereenvolgende 
avonden zendt Lost & Found live uit vanuit het Theatrum Anatomicum met en 
voor publiek. Over oorlog en ijdelheid, schoonheid en werkelijkheid. Met 
kunstenaars,
schrijvers en muzikanten.

IA/ MEDIA-ALTAAR VOOR KATHOLIEKE HERINNERINGEN
Een altaar wat voorwerpen registreert waaraan een sterke herinnering is 
verbonden uit het rijke Roomse leven: een bidprentje, rozenkrans, 
communiejurken. In samenwerking met Museum Amstelkring, Ons' Lieve Heer op 
Solder, ontwerpt Waag Society dit media-altaar. Museummedewerkers tekenen 
de verhalen op die bij de voorwerpen horen en leggen verbanden met de 
museumcollectie.
Een proefopstelling van het media-altaar wordt in gebruik genomen op het 
Mirakel van de Schoonheid Festival van de KRO.

Conversations on moody robots, the sense of being stared at and global 
consciousness. These are a few of the topics that will be discussed in the 
lecture series of the Connected! Programme on consciousness, robotics and 
communication. The lectures are held each Wednesday at 8pm. With Norman 
White, Rupert Sheldrake, Theo Jansen, Dick Bierman and Catherine Richards.

SP/ GLIDE ZONES AND SEA URCHINS
Responsive environments that behave like living organisms. That was what 
the Belgian artist group FoAM had in mind at the start of their txOoom 
project. This idea resulted in experiments with gravity rooms, wearable 
architecture and glide zones. Together with European partners they created 
a glide zone with fifty flying children at the Belgian Earwax Festival. 
Artists hanging on ropes filled the ridge of the old theatre at Great 
Yarmouth holding flexible projection screens, while players on the floor 
wrapped themselves in a web of electro-filament, and others transformed 
themselves into sea urchins.
FoAM presents the dvd of the project at Waag Society. It will be on sale at 
the event.

Jef Man is the chef of this course, which includes a starter, dinner and 
dessert that connect electronics with physical objects, movement and

SP/ ANATOMIC ON RADIO
Young artists from all over Europe explore technologies in the weekly 
Anatomic gatherings. They convene at the Waag and online. The TELEAC/NOT 
radio programme Digital Art will devote several items to the live 
performances of the Anatomic programme. They will include interviews with 
the performers and the workshop leaders, Arjen Keesmaat and Guy van Belle. 
The first broadcast will feature live input from the lab at the Centre of 
Contemporary Art, Glasgow.

Documentaries from the circle of Peter Giele, artist and founder of RoXY, 
the fabled nightclub in Amsterdam. Featuring 'Double You Street' by Martin 
Grotenboer, 'Portret van een andere orde. Portret van een andere 
mentaliteit' by Rob Schröder, and Rabotnik tapes. The programme is put 
together by the Giele Trust, at the occasion of the publication of 
'Verzamelde Werken' (Anthology), a Peter Giele biography.

IA/ CINEKID GETS LAUNCH ANIMATION MACHINE
Lots of people have had fun with making animations using amateurish tools. 
The same principles and pleasure of animation can be transmitted by new 
media. At the international film, television and new media festival for 
children the Animation Machine will have its première. The machine, that 
has been developed by Mieg van Eeden and Waag Society, helps children to 
create short animations through an interface with just two easy to use 
buttons. Animations are composed with the objects or drawings that are 
placed on the worktop of the machine. The result can be seen instantly. 
With one push of the button the animation will then be published on the 
internet.

Event/ TRY OUT OF NEW APPLICATIONS
At the E-Culture Fair visitors have a chance to try out the newest 
technological applications in the field of playing, learning and 
communicating. Forty-five demonstrations, presentations and performances 
are held by representatives of the cultural field, business, education and 
science.
Waag Society is present with a DJ/VJ demo of pupils of the Montessori 
College Oost, the hardware part of a lesson series for technical and 
vocational training on interactive, audiovisual storytelling techniques.
In cooperation with V2_ and international partners Waag Society organises a 
LiveArt performance in which a virtual stage is set up with the use of 
multi-user software, streaming video and (GigaPort) broadband infrastructure.
At the conference part of the Fair, Janine Huizenga (Head of Design) will 
give a talk on the design process of the Storytelling Table, the 
'multimedia jukebox' for elderly people.
Marleen Stikker (CEO Waag Society) will chair the discussion on 'Innovative 
Tools for Learning'. Learning through playing and experiencing is central 
in this.

Event/ LOST & FOUND RADIO
Lost & Found organises gatherings for lost images and sound since 1997. Now 
the makers will show art on the radio. On three subsequent nights Lost & 
Found will broadcast live from the Theatrum Anatomicum with and for 
audience. On war and vanity, beauty and reality. With artists, writers and 
musicians.

IA/MEDIA ALTAR FOR CATHOLIC MEMORIES
At the media altar items can be registered that have a strong Catholic 
memory attached to them: a devotional picture, rosaries, first communion 
dresses. The altar is developed by Waag Society in partnership with Ons 
Lieve Heer op Solder. Members of the museum staff will record the stories 
accompanying the objects and look for connections with the museum's 
collection. A prototype of the media altar will be put to use at the 
Miracle of Beauty festival of the KRO broadcasting organisation.
