In zijn boek gaat Rheingold in op de sociale en culturele veranderingen onder invloed van nieuwe technologieen. Hij bespreekt ondermeer het feit dat mensen in toenemende mate zelf met technologie experimenteren en hun eigen media ontwikkelen. Een van de nieuwe vormen waarin waarbij mensen onafhankelijk van tijd en plaats met elkaar communiceren om collectieve acties te organiseren, zijn de zogeheten 'Flash Mobs'. Deze bestaan uit willekeurig samengestelde groepen mensen die via het internet en mobieltjes afspraken maken voor ludieke, nietsbetekenende acties. Een videoverslag van het interview is beschikbaar op: http://connect.waag.org Woensdag 3 september CL / LEZING HENK VAN ZEIJTS Henk van Zeijts, hoofd Creative Learning, geeft op woensdag 3 september een college 'Jongerencultuur en nieuwe technologieen' aan eerstejaars studenten aan het Instituut Media en Re/presentatie van de Universiteit Utrecht. Donderdag 4 en vrijdag 5 september WAAG SOCIETY OP HET ICT KENNISCONGRES Op het ICT Kenniscongres presenteren kennisinstellingen, universiteiten en het bedrijfsleven de nieuwste ontwikkelingen op het gebied van ICT onderzoek. Het congres wordt georganiseerd door NWO en Senter. Waag Society bespreekt haar onderzoeksvraagstukken met betrekking tot kunst, cultuur en ICT in de themasessie Multimedia aan de hand van haar projecten ScratchWorx en Connected! The making of an international live art exchange. Daarnaast leveren Waag Society en V2_ een bijdrage in de presentatie van het MultimediaN consortium. Hierin zijn verenigd de Universiteit van Amsterdam, Universiteit Twente, TU Delft, Telematica Instituut, Philips, TNO, het Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica, Waag Society en V2_. Tevens heeft Waag Society samen met V2_ een stand op de Kennismarkt. Sigrid Brands, Coco Libiee en Roxanne Zandwijk, leerlingen van de IVKO school in Amsterdam, volgden eerder dit jaar lessen ScratchWorx. Zij geven op de Waag Society stand een DJ/VJ demo aan de ScratchWorx console onder hun artiestennaam: 'The Rainbows'. Http://www.ict Maandag 8 t/m vrijdag 12 september DIGITAL STORYTELLING ME T JOE LAMBERT Op verzoek van TELEAC/NOT bereidt Waag Society een aantal workshops 'Digitaal verhalen vertellen' voor, gericht op klassen 1 en 2 van het vmbo. Deze workshops vormen onderdeel van het programma 'Vertellen in het vmbo', waarvan de eerste serie is uitgezonden in het voorjaar van 2003. Op uitnodiging van TELEAC/NOT traint Joe Lambert, Center for Digital Storytelling, Berkely, de workshopleiders van Waag Society en stagiaires van de Educatieve Faculteit Amsterdam. De lessen 'Digitaal verhalen vertellen' beogen de vaardigheid van leerlingen in het vertellen te vergroten. Op de website van het project zullen de beginselen van het digitaal verhalen vertellen worden toegelicht, en zal filmmateriaal van leerlingen te zien zijn, dat ook in de tv-uitzendingen wordt verwerkt. http://mmbase.teleacnot.nl/schooltv/vertellen/index.jsp Vrijdag 12 september PR / ANATOMIC @ NEXT FIVE MINUTES Het Next Five Minutes festival houdt zich bezig met issues rond tactische media en mengvormen van kunst, media en politiek. In het festival, dat voor de vierde keer in Amsterdam plaatsvindt, presenteert Waag Society haar programma Anatomic. Kunstenaars komen op allerlei plaatsen bij elkaar en raken met elkaar in contact middels bestaande of door henzelf aangepaste software. Anatomic is zo'n plek, gebaseerd op zelf-organisatie en samen delen van technologie en werk. Sher Doruff, Arjen Keesmaat, Guy van Belle en Floor van Spaendonck introduceren de vreemde, magische wereld van Anatomic: een locatie, een initiatief, een experiment, een kunstwerk, een netwerk. De Balie, kleine zaal 12 september, 20.00 20.45 uur http://www.next5minutes.org Zaterdag 13 september SP / ANATOMIC @ WAAG SOCIETY De bijeenkomsten van de 'anatomics' maken onderdeel uit van het Connected! Programma, waarin een nieuwe genre binnen de performance kunst wordt onderzocht. Centraal staan de creatieve mogelijkheden en de expressieve impact van internet-gerelateerde technologie voor het opzetten van netwerk performances van welke aard dan ook: beweging, beeld, klank,tekst. De verkiezingen vinden plaats door het hele land op basisscholen en openbare bibliotheken. Dit jaar kunnen voor het eerst ook organisaties voor naschoolse opvang meedoen. De inschrijving voor de Gouden @penstaart 2004 is begonnen. In this book, Rheingold describes what social and cultural changes were influenced by the use of new technologies. One of his observations is that people increasingly start to experiment with technologies and develop their own media. One of the newest forms in which people communicate indepentent from time and place to organise communal actions, are the so-called 'Flash Mobs'. They consist of random groups of people who use the internet and mobile phones to organise non-sensical actions. WAAG SOCIETY AT ICT KNOWLEDGE CONGRESS At the ICT Knowledge Congress a host of research institutes, universities and businesses show the newest developments in the area of ICT research. The congress is organised by NWO and Senter. In the session on Multimedia Waag Society will discuss how it has dealt with research questions in relation to art, culture and ICT in the projects ScratchWorx and Connected! - the making of a live art exchange. Waag Society and V2_ will also feature in the presentation of the MultimediaN group, which includes the University of Amsterdam, the University of Twente, Delft University of Technology, Telematica Instituut, Philips, TNO, National Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science, Waag Society and V2_. Waag Society and V2_ also have a stand at the Kennismarkt fair. Three pupils of the IVKO school, Sigrid Brands, Coco Libiee and Roxanne Zandwijk, were taught how to use ScratchWorx to make mini multimedia productions earlier this year. These workshops are part of the television programme 'Storytelling in Technical and Vocational Training', the first series of which was broadcast in spring 2003. On the invitation of TELEAC/NOT Joe Lambert of the Center for Digital Storytelling, Berkeley, will teach the workshop leaders of Waag Society and trainees of the Amsterdam Faculty of Education. The lessons 'Digital Storytelling' aim to enhance the narrative power of pupils. In the fourth edition of the festival, which takes place in Amsterdam, Waag Society presents its programme Anatomic. Artists meet in all sorts of places and get in touch with each other through existing or self-modified software. Anatomic is such a place, based on self-organisation and sharing of technology and work. Programme, that is concerned with the emerging performance arts genre Live Arts. Anatomic explores the creative possibilities and the expressive impact of internet-related technology for the setting up of network performances of whatever nature: movement, pictures, sound, text.
