nettime-nl: fantoom 2000

Mijn zoon is verliefd op een fantoom.

Iedere avond zit hij achter zijn computer en chat met zijn vriendin
ergens in een dorpje te Texas vlakbij Houston.
Het begon met een MUD en wat later vooral chatten.
Daarna kwam er een microfoon bij en weer wat later
een webcam zodat zij elkaar konden zien.
Om te weten of ze echt waren zoals ze zich voordeden maakten ze gebruik van allerlei tests,
te beginnen met de classieke Thu"ring test.

Het laatste was dat ze elkaars lichaams-geuren toezonden. Slim niet waar?

so far so good.

Ten einde raad vanwege de inmiddels hoog oplopende telefoonkosten.
(8 uur per dag naar USA werd gewoon) besloot ik er als eenvoudig beeldend kunstenaar
ook maar weer een project van te maken.

Ik verzond de volgende e-mail:

Carin,
don't be disturbed this time, its real reality and be aware, that I'm making a project
as an artist of the fenomenal communication you have with Willem.
I feel that I must do this to don't get lost and overstretched and give the problem
some meaningfull contents.

My solution is to sublimize the given situation into sense.

I will start building a network worldwide about the (in our eyes bizarre) addiction of our
son.

My axiomata in this project will be,
that I see you as the producer of a
telematic cyber drug 'desire' with three main elements:

1. producing electronic love signs,
2. producing female/male visible images,
3. male/female (avatar) voice production,
4. male/female (avatar) chat and video productions.

I will consult psychologists, artists, friends, journalists, doctors, psychiatrists, etc..

Title of the project will be Phantoms and narcism 2000

I will publish the project first in dutch, and later in english at a relevant mailinglist.

The only solution I can imagine is that you should meet each other IRL ASAP (between
school research days) to give Willem a chanche to recover this simulated drug as a
real live person and finish his school.
