<nettime> Theory Machine for sale on ebay.com

Forwarded for your holiday shopping pleasure.

----

Theory explains phenomena. Machines consist of inputs, processes and
outputs. To create a theory machine in the context of new media is an
opportunity to create a process that comments on itself.

Placed in a busy hallway at the Art Center College of Design is an open
container. Art Center students, faculty, staff and visitors are invited to
change the contents of the container by adding what they feel is
appropriate. From Monday, December 13 to Friday December 17 the container
will be up for auction on ebay.com. Art Center students, faculty, staff and
visitors will be invited to change the contents of the container by adding
objects or anything else they feel is appropriate.

Visitors to ebay.com can monitor this process through a live video feed, the
first of its kind on ebay.com. At the end of the week the container and its
contents will be sealed and shipped to the highest bidder. The changing
nature of the theory machine ensures that the highest bidder will be bidding
on constantly changing content. However, as items are added during the week
they will be listed daily on the ebay site.

The theory machine was conceived by Adele Bass, Jason Bud, Matthew Carroll
and Aaron Rincover
