<nettime> Matrixial Encounters

     [orig To: soft_skinned_space <empyre@gamera.cofa.unsw.edu.au>;
      nettime-l@bbs.thing.net BCCed(?) -- mod(tb)]

The underlying message is that culture is something that
happens to you. It is not something in which you
participate, or to which you have the right to respond.

The prevailing formula for artworld, copyright and trademark
enforcement is a turf war over who is going to get to make
art with the new technologies.

The media moguls used to claim that their cultural products
carried the torch of freedom to authoritarian regimes. Not
only has that mission has been swiftly abandoned in favor of
economic self-interest, but it seems that it may be the
torch of authoritarianism that is being carried by those
most determined to go global.
