<nettime> Porto Alegre

These days (25-30 Jan.) the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum
takes place in Davos. As a challenge to this and especially the
neoliberal policies which it promotes, the Public Eye on Davos set up a
conference with the usual toothless rhetorics about "challening the so
called world leaders". http://www.davos2001.ch/eye.htm
This year however, there is also a new approach in criticizing
globalization, as the new "World Social Forum" set up a meeting in the
city of Porto Allegre, Brazil. "The World Social Forum will provide a
space for building economic alternatives, for exchanging experiences and
for strengthening South-North alliances between NGOs, unions and social
movements. It will also be an opportunity for developing concrete
projects, to educate the public, and to mobilize civil society
internationally" - see http://www.forumsocialmundial.org.br/
