<nettime> E-culture fair



E-culture fair
12 - 13 November 2000
RAI, Amsterdam

 From 12-13 November 2000 the E-culture fair will be held in 
Amsterdam's RAI conference centre, organised by the Virtual Platform. 
This international event brings together creative and innovative 
concepts, processes and products in the field of new media. The 
emphasis is on new ways of communicating, learning and playing in a 
cultural/social context.

The  E-culture fair is

50 projects will be presented, divided into 4 zones:

Zone 1 Staging
The growth of audio, video and live programming (streaming media) on 
the Internet offers new opportunities for artistic experimentation 
which remain relatively unknown among the general public.
Zone 2 Interacting
With the advent of mobile telephones, and so-called 'pervasive 
computing', exciting new ways to interact are possible - using voice, 
touch, movement, indeed all the senses. In this zone young designers 
research some future scenarios.
Zone 3 Learning
This zone presents applications of new technology in which the human 
is given a central role in the learning process, in for example forms 
of media education.
Zone 4 Playing
Looks at recent games developed in different contexts for different 
purposes and places them in a social and cultural context.

Opening
On 12 November at 1 p.m. the E-culture fair will be officially opened 
by the Secretary of State for Culture, Dr. F. van der Ploeg.

E-culture contexts
During the E-culture fair a varied programme of project 
presentations, visions of (inter)national experts and screenings will 
run in an adjoining room. On 12 November the programme focuses on 
Staging and Interacting, on 13 November on Learning and Playing.

E-quest
The Virtual Platform will organise a competition for  young children 
called E-quest, based on the content of the Fair. The winners will 
receive a copy of Playstation's latest game 'Rainman 2'.
 
Netlounge sofa
The Netlounge is an event that brings people together in a relaxed 
and inspiring environment. It is geared towards 'young creatives' 
working in new media, advertising, design and music. Take a seat on 
the mobile sofa and meet Netlounge. http://www.net-lounge.nl

Bellissima
Bellissima will set up a livestreaming studio in the RAI so that the 
E-culture fair can be experienced on the Internet and on Amsterdam's 
local cable television network. http://www.bellissima.net

'Speakers Corner'
An art project initiated by Jaap de Jonge and produced by the 
Netherlands Media Art Institute.

Cinema Digitaal E-culture night
The E-culture fair is having a party on 12 November in Paradiso, 
Amsterdam's pop temple. A selection of E-culture stars will be in the 
spotlight, as part of Paradiso's Cinema Digitaal (digital cinema) 
programme. The highlights include the Webby Awards, the "Oscars" of 
webdesign from San Francisco; a specially compiled video art /film 
and documentary programme from the Netherlands Media Art Institute 
together with Cinema Digitaal; Boombox, a livestreaming website for 
club music from Switzerland; TNC from Paris and Arcangel Constantini, 
a VJ artist and software designer from Mexico.
