ARTS FESTIVAL SEEKS NEW MEDIA WORK FROM AUSTRALIA / ASIA PACIFIC REGION

Australian new media arts organisation, MAAP (MULTIMEDIA ART ASIA PACIFIC)
prepares to present online and live from 12-14 October its fourth Festival
featuring innovative digital artworks from Australia and the Asia Pacific
regions.

MAAP is now seeking submissions for this year’s festival from artists
RELATING TO Australia/Asia Pacific regions. We are looking to promote
websites, cd-rom, video and new media forms. The theme for this year is
"EXCESS" considering the theme of extremes and waste, by-product, recycling
media, minimalism and maximalism. We are also interested to hear of
curatorial proposals and current projects that may partner with the
festival.initial Deadline 30 May 2000 (some extensions available on request)

Starting out as a community based event in 1998 it has grown to be a premier
digital arts festival in the region with strong partnerships in Hong Kong,
Beijing, Seoul,
Kuala Lumpur and Singapore expanding the Festival even further. These
alliances have paved the way for artists in the region working with new
technology to have the space to exhibit new works, and critical exposure.

The public program is presented in three streams: See, Seek and Speak.
* See exhibitions, performances, installations, interactive and online
works;
* Seek out exhibitions and partnerships with satellite events in the local
and international arena;
* Speak at an online forum with a host of experts in digital art.

SEE:
Free cinema-screening program in the Brisbane Powerhouse.
Innovative content comprising of video, animation and CD ROMS -
a collection of screen-based artwork from the region.
Developing programs -
* “EXCESS” New Chinese Video – emerging and established artists.
* “EXCESS” New Korean Video – emerging and established artists.
* “EXCESS” Director’s Cut – works from Australia and the Asia Pacific Region
*  Videotage Selection –  a selection of new works from Hong Kong
* D’art from dLux - international screen culture produced annually to
showcase new media work
* Malaysian Video Awards Festival - experimental section .
* Digital Degrees - Student program from tertiary institutions around the
region

SEEK:
Accessible online and live from the Brisbane Powerhouse during the Festival
large screen projections featuring interactive works and new web art
from the Missile Website Launch propelling a new work daily onto our
screens, also ...
* Visiting Chinese artist GongXin Wang artist's residency presents new media
installation.
* KIT, parcel tracking web project
* New media installations and Cdrom works from the region presented at the
   Brisbane Powerhouse and Institute of Modern Art.
* Audio sound program .... in the dark ...

SPEAK:
The internet forum features international artists, curators and commentators
from
arts centres in Hong Kong, Beijing, Seoul, and Brisbane netcast live from
their time zones.
