[Nettime-bold] Recodebacle - the latest debacle of internet censorship.

Friends you may or not be interested in the latest debacle of
internet censorship - this time from within the ranks of our own art
community.

Today it appears that not one but two active Australian Internet Artists
had their opinions and art removed from Recode, a rather prominent Aussie
art and technology mailing list. Recode is maintained by the Australian
Network for Art and Technology, a member based organisation, of which
both the censored artists are members.

As the following emails show, ANAT Director Jules Pierce today made
an executive decision to unsubscribe the artist currently known as netwurker
from the recode list. Jules posted to the list her reasons for doing so.

It seems that the subsequent posts made by myself to recode have gotten
'lost' in the Internet. As they have not appeared on the recode list.
Going by activities prior, I am currently assuming that I also have been
filtered from the recode list.

All this just weeks after a major thread started by Scott Art (autonomous),
entitled 'i'm all for making trouble !!!' - the ensuing conversations
ruminated on why a list like recode is so meek and mild. Responses high
lighted the fact that upsetting arts funding bodies and art organisations
was risky business if you had a want for funding and support.
eg; play the game

Today I tried to play my game(ART) and maybe I lost,
but at least people heard me lose.

regards
Free the Radical

Mail 1 : includes Jules first post to recode announcing the unsub of
netwurker and includes netwurkers response.
As netwurker was unsubbed this mail was FWD to recode by FTR

Mail 4: I mail my response not only to recode but also to the other
lists Jules sent her unsub announcement to.
The recode one does not get through. It appears as though all
traffic on recode had been turned off for the day.

Mail 5: unfortunately the majordomo mail server refuses my request
to unsub Jules, and I mail the failure notice to recode.
           It does not get through.

mail should also go to the other lists that Jules posted her

Mail 7: Wow - recode comes alive at 3.42pm with a posting from Jules.
Which includes the original post that I made on behalf of
