Purchase College, State University of New York is soliciting applications for three strategic tenure track faculty hires invested in the intersection of art, media, design, and technology. Additionally, these appointments will be hired in conjunction with the opening of a new facility, the Center for Media, Film, and Theater projected for completion in 2018.

These new faculty hires and facilities signal an expansion in the college’s efforts to support cross-disciplinary activities and emerging practices.

We seek applications from artists/designers/researchers committed to public education and to share that enthusiasm with their students. Ideal candidates are faculty that have a robust professional track record that is experimental, investigative, and compelling in its ethos and process. Ideal candidates explore how the practice of design/technology/media can be an artistic and social project and are able to support undergraduate and graduate programs.

These new hires each occupy three overlapping foci: design, media art, and computer science. Each successful candidates will join a department corresponding to their areas of expertise (Graphic Design, New Media, Computer Science/Media) and will be expected to teach within these programs and will be encouraged to work across the college and contribute to other adjacent transdisciplinary research areas:

Assistant or Associate Professor (Design)
Ideal candidates are Design practitioners, artists, cultural workers with an expertise in web and interactive design. Research areas include dynamic typography, creative coding, time based work, data visualization, visual literature/ design authorship, or any combination of these.

Assistant Professor (New Media)
Ideal candidates are research-based media artists who will teach within the undergraduate New Media curriculum and the school’s new MFA in Media Arts and Culture. Specializations could include, but are not limited to, time-based installation, critical or speculative design, media installation, social software and mobile media, AR/VR/MR and other emerging fields.

Assistant Professor (Computer Science/New Media)
Ideal candidates for this position should have an active media arts practice; desired specializations include, but are not limited to, data visualization, social software, and mobile media. Ability to teach introductory programming courses and advanced electives for Mathematics/Computer Science and New Media students is essential.

Founded on the principle that artists and scholars are indispensable to each other and to an enlightened society, Purchase College combines professional conservatory programs in the visual and performing arts and distinguished programs in the liberal arts and sciences. Located 25 miles north of Manhattan in New York, the campus celebrates individuality, diversity, and creativity as we encourage students to “Think Wide Open.” At Purchase College, the arts play a special role—liberal education infuses the arts and the arts infuse the campus.
