About.
Provisions Library — an art and social change research organization based in Washington DC and at George Mason University, invites proposals from creative social change agents for research projects in partnerships with DC institutions and communities. Provisions research residencies consider methods of inquiry, investigation, creation, and collaboration for art and public actions that investigate local and global social issues and themes. Researchers may be contemporary artists, public-interest activists, academics, cultural producers, and creative practitioners of all kinds. Provisions Library at George Mason University is a starting point and launchpad for projects that take place in partnership with places across the capital.
Projects.
Applicants are invited to propose research projects that forge interactions with DC-based academic, policy, research, and cultural institutions. Proposals should be grounded in Provisions’ social change Meridians. This year, Provisions has special interest in research projects relating to (but in no way limited by) Agri-Cultures (post-industrial permaculture), Mournuments (structures of death, mourning, remembrance), Labours of Love (work, love, and sexuality), Education Reformation (lores of de-schooling), and Affect Mapping & Measurement (qualifying quantity).
Partners.
Provisions extends a partnership network with a variety of DC institutions and organizations including, but not limited to, the National Archives, Library of Congress, DC Public Library, The Smithsonian, the National Zoo, various think-tanks, and numerous public policy institutes. Provisions staff supports residency fellows in building research relationships with DC institutions, organizations, and agencies — federal and local alike.
Support.
Research Fellowships provide $500 per week for two or three-week research residencies. National Fellowships for artists born/based anywhere in the US include travel and lodging. Capital Fellowships for residents of Metropolitan Washington will engage local communities and help expand Provisions public network. Fellows present two talks — one at George Mason University presenting past work, and another at the end of their stay to present research findings to communities across the capital. Fellows also submit a final PDF document presenting their research for publication on Provisions website. All Fellows will build a more sophisticated understanding of contemporary art, creative research and social action in DC and beyond.

Proposals should include:
1) A brief proposal articulating your research interests and activities including a possible project title, proposed research investigation or action, an indication of potential partners or research sites, desired time-frame(s) and residency length, and your interest in Provisions (two page max).
2) A resume/cv
3) A link to your website or images of your work
4) Whether you seek a national or capital fellowship
