New Book: Modern Living ? The Graphic Universe of Han Hoogerbrugge

SubmarineChannel and BIS Publishers are proud to present a monograph (incl. DVD) about the work of web artist Han Hoogerbrugge. The 15 chapters of the book cover all aspects of Hoogerbrugge's work: from the early beginnings with the Neurotica series for the web, Hotel, Nails, the commissioned works. Other chapters focus on interaction and sound design, publishing on the web, animation techniques, the self portrait, zeitgeist, inspirations and more. This monograph analyzes and dissects Hoogerbrugge's intricate, personal universe but also positions him within the wider context of a generation of artists who have been active on the web since the mid 1990s.
Most chapters contain an introduction by SubmarineChannel to which Hoogerbrugge added side notes and personal comments. Scattered throughout the book are snippets from comments that Hoogerbrugge received from site visitors. And 4 experts offer a unique perspective on Hoogerbrugge's work in 4 essays: 'Black Water' by writer Marcel Möring, 'Flipping out and Floating Away' by OneDotZero co-founder/digital film pioneer and Matt Hanson (A Swarm of Angels), 'Contemporary Angst' art critic and writer Vivianne Loría (Lapiz) and 'Abuse, Pain and Torture' by animation expert/editor for Helen Walters.

In the back of the book sits a DVD with 62 min. of Hoogerbrugge's short films, web animations, music videos, excerpts from his installation works and commissioned works.
